In 1977, Maeda was scouted by Satoru Sayama (The 1st Tiger Mask), and was initiated into New Japan Pro-Wrestling. He had debut match against Kotetsu Yamamoto at Nagaoka-Kousei-Kaikan in Niigata on August 25th. He started on an expedition to the United Kingdom in February. He mastered 12 kinds of suplex and did the triumphal return to New Japan. Although he participated in the 1st UWF in April, 1984, he returned to New Japan in January, 1986. On October 9th of the same year, he defeated Don Nakaya Nielsen the Mixed Martial Arts Match of the “Inoki Toukon Live” held in Ryogoku Kokugikan, Tokyo. He got the title of “Grapple King". He established the 2nd UWF in 1988 and, after that, established Fighting Network RINGS on February 21st 1999. On February 21st 1999, he retired in the match against Alexander Karelin at Yokohama Arena, Kanagawa. He is managing the mixed martial arts event "The Outsiders" now.
