Suzuki was initiated into New Japan Pro-Wrestling in March, 1987. He made his debut match against Takayuki Iizuka (Takashi Iizuka) on June 23rd, 1988. He established Pancrase with Masakatsu Funaki through fighting in the newly established UWF and Professional Wrestling Fujiwaragumi in September, 1993. He defeated Ken Shamrock and gained the title of 2nd King of Pancrase in May, 1995. On November 30th, 2002, he won the victory against Jushin Thunder Liger in the match of the Pancrase rule. On June 13th, 2003, he entered New Japan for the first time in 14 years, and defeated Masayoshi Naruse. On August 31st, he defeated Iizuka who was his opponent when he debuted, in the match of the Catch rule. On February 1st, 2004, he formed a tag team with Yoshihiro Takayama and became the 46th IWGP Tag Team Champion. He first participated in "G1 CLIMAX" in August. He fought against Kensuke Sasaki on November 13th. After that, he wrestled actively in All Japan Pro-Wrestling and Pro-Wrestling NOAH. He re-landed at New Japan in 2010, and formed "Suzukigun". He commands Taka Michinoku, Taichi, Lance Archer, and Davey Boy Smith Jr. and is sweeping over the New Japan mats.
